OpenTech Alliance needed a mobile solution to help self-storage managers control facility access remotely. As the sole designer, I led the end-to-end design of Manager Genie: an intuitive app that allows managers to monitor activity, control gates, view alerts, and resolve issues from anywhere.

Overview

Manager Genie is a mobile app that empowers self-storage managers to control access to facilities from anywhere. Designed for speed, clarity, and reliability, the app helps reduce downtime and improves remote security oversight.

Problem

Managers needed a way to authorize gate access, monitor activity logs, and quickly resolve tenant issues—without being physically on-site or relying on outdated desktop systems.

Solution

We designed Manager Genie from scratch, creating a streamlined mobile experience for monitoring gate activity, controlling access points, reviewing logs, and handling alerts. Emphasis was placed on accessibility, branding, and security throughout.

Working closely with stakeholders, I led research synthesis, wireframing, high-fidelity UI design, and handoff to engineering. I also created brand-aligned visuals for marketing and app store assets.

Brand System

I helped organize and enhance the OpenTech Alliance design system by standardizing icons, typography, color palette, and web elements. These guidelines ensure brand consistency across all marketing, app, and sales materials.

Early Flow & Wireframes

This early concept work mapped out the entire login and access control flow for Storage Genie. Starting with hand-drawn logic diagrams, I then created mid-fidelity wireframes to validate ideas before moving into final UI. This foundation ensured smooth transitions between user states like login, authentication, and real-time gate control.

Seamless Sign-In Experience

I designed a frictionless login flow for Manager Genie, balancing usability with security. This included Face ID support, a smart password recovery path, and clean UI to support fast, repeat logins. It’s built for speed—without sacrificing trust.

Facility Dashboard

Giving managers full visibility in secondsThis dashboard consolidates everything a manager needs—real-time gate control, unit activity, visitor tracking, and tenant statuses—all into a single, clean interface. It was designed to reduce daily friction and give operators instant access to the info they care about most.
